Working hard to see that the Greater Lynchburg area is strong and thriving is very important to me, and in doing so, I feel strongly that causes need to be supported.  I am very happy to support so many of them-one of which is the “Empty Bowls” sponsored by the pottery studio at the Academy of Fine Arts.

This event is in its fourth successful year and is held at the Academy at 600 Main Street.  Area potters and others donate handmade ceramic bowls which every participant is able to pick one out and take it home.  And, several potters will offer more unique bowls for a price.  At the event, soup and bread is served with a donation of $15.  The purpose of the empty bowl is to remind us that there are always empty bowls somewhere in our world.  All proceeds from this event are donated to the Daily Bread, established in 1982 to feed the hungry.  It provides a meal a day, 365 days a year to those in need.  There is always a line waiting to have a hot meal.
